At school my favourite subject had always been art because it allowed you to be creative. There is never a right or wrong way of doing things when it comes to being creative. It gives you the freedom to express and create what you want.
I decided to study Multimedia at university because it would allow me discover a different method of being creative rather than the traditional methods of paints and pencils. Web design was completely new to me and still is today. The internet is constantly evolving, so there is always something new to be learnt and inspiration is always available at a click of a button.
Soon after finishing university, I worked for a leading mobile phone company, Dial-a-Phone (part of Phones4u). My responsibilities were to create and maintain all online marketing creatives from web graphics/pages, e-newsletters to affiliate banners. Dial-a-Phone being an ecommerce site allowed me to develop an understanding of the importance of customer journey and SEO. However, being the sole graphic/web designer and most of the offline creative being outsourced, I was not expose to a creative team/environment to help draw inspiration/advice from.
I love dancing! Big fan of Strictly Come Dancing! I know it is a yawn to most people but it's my X Factor! Sexy outfits, a man taking the lead, keeps you fit...what's not to like!? Hehe! To satisfy my craving for dancing, I am currently taking part in Salsa lessons...beginners, mind you!
I am always up for 'trying anything once'! A new experience, good or bad, is always an exciting/challenging one. I may not be great at what I do but I am always willing to admit if I am unable to do something.
I always enjoy meeting new people. I do get drawn to people from different cultures as I sincerely believe that you can learn something new from someone. In a working environment, I consider myself a team player and I do believe you can learn more from being in a team as it can open your mind to different ideas.
After having worked for Dial-a-Phone for 3 years, I have now been made redundant as Phones4U had decided to close down the London base. Although for most people it is a terrible time to be made redundant, for me it is an exciting one! It gives me the chance to explore new opportunities, to learn new skills whilst developing on existing ones, work on projects for friends and possibly take part in more dance lessons...ideally the Argentine Tango!
I am currently looking for a freelance/contract role, within a dynamic and creative company, that will provide a challenge on a daily basis whilst utilising and developing existing skills. Ideally in an environment where there is an opportunity for personal development.
I am available to work immediately until beginning of March as I am awaiting confirmation on whether or not I have been accepted to take part in a global volunteering scheme in a developing country! So fingers crossed on that!
Note: Available to work until March 2010.
